SUSAN HUTCHISON

Susan Hutchison graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee with an honours degree in Illustration & Printmaking in 1990.
For over ten years she worked as a Freelance Illustrator and during this time she completed a large number of commissions, including full book illustration for publishers such as Scholastic, Oxford University Press and Orchard. She also has illustration experience working on commercial advertising for national companies as well as Public Art Commissions.

Combining fine art painting with teaching art & design, she works from her studio in the WASPS Creative Exchange in Perth. Working with oil paints and watercolours, her work reflects the surroundings in which she lives. She takes inspiration from the diverse local wildlife of rural Perthshire and enjoys creating depictions of the fox, hare, mice & bird life, both representational and expressive. Having lived in an agricultural community she also paints the many different breeds of sheep and cattle found in the local area, and enjoys capturing their unique characters, using fine detail, manipulating the paint to achieve each ‘portrait’.

In recent times her focus has turned to 'man's best friend', and she has enjoyed painting a variety of dog breeds. The compositions that she creates strive to reinforce the characteristics of the particular breed and celebrate our much loved canine companions.

She has exhibited at many galleries including the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Art, and her work is part of many private collections.
