CHRISTOPHER WOOD RSW PPSSA RGI

Christopher trained at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with an Honours degree in Drawing and Painting in 1984 and has been a full-time professional artist since his first one-man exhibition in Edinburgh 1987. He is married with two children and two step-children and currently lives and works in the historic town of and Dunbar, near Edinburgh.

Christopher is Past-President of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA), an elected member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW), an elected member of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts (RGI), and a professional member of both Visual Arts Scotland (VAS) and the Paisley Art Institute (PAI).

Christopher draws his inspiration from the dynamic and ever-changing landscapes of the Scottish coast, particularly near his home in East Lothian. His work captures the essence of these natural environments, not through direct representation, but by translating the mood, light, and energy of the land and sea into an abstract, personal language. Christopher’s pieces balance spontaneous, expressive gestures with thoughtful composition, creating a dialogue between instinct and structure. His use of colour reflects an emotional connection to his surroundings, while his layered techniques in mixed media highlight his interest in light, texture, and depth. Through this approach, he seeks to evoke a sensory experience, inviting the viewer into a world that is both tangible and introspective.
